Registered Practical Nurse Position Description (RPN)

Primary Focus

Responsibilities:

  1. Understands and practices within the scope of the Regulated Health Professions Act.
  2. Identifies problems and implements nursing care plans in conjunction with the client and/or family and with other members of the health discipline team.
  3. Acknowledges and implements physicians orders within the guidelines of the agency and the College of Nurses provincial regulations
  4. Delivers and documents nursing care on the client chart using the nursing process.
  5. Maintains communication with other members of the health care team.
  6. Reports any change in client status to the Team Leader or appropriate health discipline team member.
  7. Utilizes the principles of adult teaching/learning to promote client independence.
  8. Provides a supportive emotional environment.
  9. Utilizes available resources to meet the educational needs of the client.
  10. Maintains professional and organizational standards of personal behaviour and appearance.
  11. Ensure confidentiality of client information.
  12. Keeps abreast of current trends in nursing practice and participates in continuing education programs.
  13. Adheres to the policies of specific government programs as instructed by Comforcare Senior Services.

Education/professional Development Requirements:

  1. Current RPN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  2. Medication Administration certificate from a recognized Community College.

Experience Requirements:

  1. Shift: Minimum one year acute care or community nursing preferred.
  2. Visit: Minimum two years acute care or community nursing preferred.
  3. Institution: Minimum one year acute care nursing preferred
  4. Current CPR certificate
  5. Valid drivers license, car and proof of automobile business liability insurance
