Registered Practical Nurse/Registered Nursing Assistant
Primary Focus:
- The Registered Practical Nurse/Registered Nursing Assistant shall practice his/her profession in a safe and efficient manner.
- The Registered Practical Nurse/Registered Nursing Assistant is always aware that the client is a customer of ComForcare Senior Services and as such, will always maintain a professional and courteous relationship.
- The Registered Practical Nurse/Registered Nursing Assistant is able to function independently within the work environment, following an established care plan and can identify and effectively respond to a crisis situation.
- In keeping with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Registered Practical Nurse/Registered Nursing Assistant will take every reasonable precaution to ensure that the workplace is safe. A sound knowledge of the principles and practices of good body mechanics as well as the knowledge of how to safely handle, store and dispose of hazardous substances and handle potential hazards is required in order to provide safe care in a variety of settings.
Responsibilities:
- Understands and practices within the scope of the Regulated Health Professions Act.
- Identifies problems and implements nursing care plans in conjunction with the client and/or family and with other members of the health discipline team.
- Acknowledges and implements physicians orders within the guidelines of the agency and the College of Nurses provincial regulations
- Delivers and documents nursing care on the client chart using the nursing process.
- Maintains communication with other members of the health care team.
- Reports any change in client status to the appropriate health discipline team member.
- Utilizes the principles of adult teaching/learning to promote client independence.
- Provides a supportive emotional environment.
- Utilizes available resources to meet the educational needs of the client.
- Maintains professional and organizational standards of personal behaviour and appearance.
- Ensures confidentiality of client information.
- Keeps abreast of current trends in nursing practice and participates in continuing education programs.
- Adheres to the policies of specific government programs as instructed by Comforcare Senior Services.
Education/professional Development Requirements:
- Current RPN/RNA registration with their respective College of Nurses.
- Medication Administration certificate from a recognized Community College.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum one year acute care nursing preferred
- Current CPR certificate
- Valid drivers license, car and proof of automobile business liability insurance
Position scope:
- Accountable to the Manager/ Supervisor.
- Meets with the care team on a weekly basis to discuss shared cases, problems/solutions etc.
- Works effectively and in complete cooperation with members of the multidisciplinary health care team.
- Responsible to the client for quality care delivered in a timely and cost efficient manner.
